Vana Vougiouka

Born in Volos, Vana Vougiouka started to play guitar at the age of nine with Menios Mokas. She made her first public appearance in Thessaloniki when she was ten. She continued her musical education at the “Concervatroty of Norhtern Greece” with Evangelos Asimakopoulos and after 1990 at New Concervatory of Thessaloniki with Costas Cotsiolis. She received her guitar diploma in 1995 with excellent grades.   Besides her studies she attended many master classes with important guitarists and teachers as Hubert Kaeppel, David Russell, John Duarte, Aniello Desiderio, Zoran Dukic,  Gerhard Reichenbach and also had lessons on renaissance and baroque lute music with the lutenist Dimitris Ioanou.

As a soloist, teacher and member of competition juries, Ms Vougiouka has taken part in many international guitar festivals all over Europe. She has given concerts in Greece, Germany, England, Spain and India. During the years 2000 – 2010 she had been a member of the jury of the International Guitar Competition in Gevelsberg, Germany. In 2004 and 2005 she was a member of the jury of  the International Guitar Competition “Hubert Kaeppel” in Koblenz, Germany, with over 100 participants from all over the world.

In 1997 she founded ” Kitharis”, a non-profit making  cultural organization. As president of “Kitharis she has organized concerts and master classes in Greece with many internationally renowned  guitarists.

In 1998 she successfully organized the first International Guitar Festival of Northern Greece, in Afitos, Chalkidiki.

In 2001 she was the artistic director of the  International Music Camp, which took place in Kassandra, Chalkidiki, organized by the “Conservatory of Northern Greece”.

Her first CD was recorded and released in Germany in 2002.

Between 2005 and 2007, together with the internationally renowned writer Atnhony Strano she organized three international artists’ gatherings under the title “The Spirit of Art”, which took place in Athens and in Amfikleia.

During the years 2008-2013 she had been coordinating a group of artists which organized several cultrural events in Athens, under the program “Creativity versus Crisis”.

Ms Vougiouka has also studied Architecture at the Polytechnic  School of Thessaloniki, where she received her Diploma as an Architect in 1994. She has worked at Anelixi, a company founded by the architect Elli Georgiadou,  with the purpose of research on Bioclimatic and Ecological Architecture. The team of Anelixi was top prize winner of the two architectural competitions “Greek Housing 2000”.

As a classical guitar teacher she has worked at New Conservatory of Thessaloniki (1997-2008),  at Concervatory of Northern Greece (2000-2008), and at Philipos Nakas Conservatory in Athens (2010-2013). Since 2013 she has been living
